The situation

The problem an integration really solves.

For wholesalers and multi-channel retailers, a mismatch between ERP and webshop is not annoying, it is direct loss. Here are the four patterns we encounter most often.

Stock mismatches

Selling products on the shop while the shelf is empty. Or the other way around: products in stock that no one sees.

Manual re-keying

An employee re-typing orders, customer addresses and invoices between systems every day, and making mistakes.

Price changes too late

Purchase price goes up, but the webshop stays on the old sales price for a week. Margin gone.

Scale ceiling

You know you can grow 3x, but your administration cannot handle it without hiring a dedicated team.

What syncs

Concrete data flows between BC and Shopify.

No vague “we connect everything”, an explicit table of what flows in which direction, at which frequency.

Solution

Migration to Shopify with custom design, and a real-time Business Central integration via our middleware. Stock, prices, orders, customers and invoices fully in sync.

Result

A future-proof webshop on Shopify with real-time synchronisation to the back office, so the team can handle the order volume without manual re-typing.

  • End-to-end encryptionAll data in transit with TLS 1.3, at rest with AES-256. No plain-text logs.
  • GDPR-compliantEU data residency, processor agreement, right-to-be-forgotten flows built in.
  • Audit log per transactionEvery sync is recorded: what, when, by whom, with what result.
  • Role-based accessWho can see what in the middleware console, linked to your IdP (Azure AD / Google Workspace).

Maintenance & SLA

  • 24/7 monitoringOur on-call rotation gets an alert immediately on failed jobs or API errors. No waiting until Monday.
  • P1 response time: 1 hourBusiness-critical issues picked up within one working hour. Set out in your SLA.

FAQ

Technical & commercial questions.

The questions we get back from every intake, answered honestly up front.

Why a middleware layer and not a direct API connection?

A direct connection works at low volume, but falls over as soon as your BC is slow, Shopify hits rate limits, or the network hiccups. The middleware buffers events, retries automatically with exponential backoff, and gives an audit log per transaction. At production volume that is not a luxury but a requirement.

Do you work with BC Cloud, On-Premises or both?

Both. For BC Cloud (SaaS) we use the standard OData and REST APIs. For On-Premises we install a lightweight agent that communicates securely outbound with our middleware. Performance is comparable in both setups.

What if our Shopify catalogue contains 50,000+ SKUs?

No problem. We use batch syncs for catalogue updates, delta syncs for changes, and webhook-driven real-time for orders. Scale is a design choice we make from day one.

Can you also handle B2B functionality?

Yes. Customer-specific price lists, tiered discounts, credit limits, payment terms, order approvals, all natively supported. We connect Shopify Plus B2B channel functionality directly to BC customer cards.

What happens if the middleware is down?

Events stay in a dead-letter queue until the system is back. Nothing is lost. We monitor uptime 24/7 and have a failover setup. Our SLA guarantees 99.9% uptime, measured and reported.

Who owns the code and data?

You do. Custom code is delivered in your own Git repo you keep access to. Data stays in your BC and Shopify instances; we are a processor, not a collector. On termination you get a full hand-over package.

Do you also do the Shopify implementation yourselves, or only the integration?

Both. We are an official Shopify partner and build the theme, integrations and customisations ourselves. Clients often combine a Shopify build with the BC integration in one project.

Can we do a pilot first?

Certainly. For large projects we often do a scoped first phase with one entity in production, for example only orders. Then we evaluate before continuing. Lower risk for you, faster first result.

01

The Challenge of Disconnected Systems

Managing a webshop often means juggling multiple systems. Orders come in through Shopify, inventory is tracked elsewhere, and financial data resides in Business Central. This fragmented approach leads to manual data entry, errors, and delays. You spend valuable time reconciling information instead of focusing on growth. Without a robust connection, scaling your online business becomes a complex task, prone to bottlenecks and inefficiencies. We understand these challenges and provide solutions that bring your systems together, operating from Ede and serving SMBs across the Netherlands.

02

Streamline Your Operations with Integration

A Business Central Shopify integration eliminates manual work by automating the flow of critical data between your webshop and ERP system. Imagine new orders from Shopify automatically creating sales orders in Business Central. Stock levels are updated in real-time across both platforms, preventing overselling. Customer information and pricing rules are synchronised, ensuring consistency and accuracy. This integration ensures that your sales, inventory, and financial data are always aligned, providing a single source of truth for your business. It reduces operational costs and allows your team to focus on strategic activities rather than repetitive administrative tasks. We've helped businesses like Alweroshop.nl achieve this by migrating from Magento to Shopify and building a custom Business Central integration.

03

Key Benefits of a Business Central Shopify Integration

Implementing a Business Central Shopify integration delivers several concrete advantages. Firstly, it ensures real-time inventory synchronisation, which means your webshop always displays accurate stock levels, preventing out-of-stock orders or missed sales opportunities. Secondly, order processing is automated; orders placed on Shopify are immediately pushed to Business Central for fulfilment, accelerating delivery times and improving customer satisfaction. Thirdly, customer data is unified, providing a complete overview of purchase history and preferences, which supports personalised marketing efforts. Finally, financial data flows smoothly, simplifying accounting and reporting. This leads to better decision-making based on current, reliable information. Our experience since 2013 has shown that these integrations are vital for modern SMBs.

04

Our Approach to Your Integration Project

Our process for establishing your Business Central Shopify integration begins with a thorough analysis of your current workflows and specific business needs. We identify which data points need to be synchronised and how often, ensuring the solution aligns perfectly with your operational requirements. Following this discovery phase, we design a detailed integration plan, outlining the technical architecture and implementation steps. Our developers then build and configure the connection, rigorously testing it to ensure all data flows correctly and securely. We provide training for your team and ongoing support to ensure the integration continues to perform optimally. This systematic approach guarantees a reliable and effective solution. We are proud to be rated 5.0 stars by 56 customers on Google for our commitment to quality and service.

05

Beyond Integration: Maximising Your E-commerce Potential

While a Business Central Shopify integration is fundamental for efficiency, it's often part of a broader strategy for online success. Consider how strong SEO can drive more traffic to your integrated Shopify store, or how targeted Google Ads campaigns can convert that traffic into sales. An optimized webshop, whether on Shopify or another platform like WooCommerce, forms the front end of your integrated system. We offer comprehensive services, from webshop development to ongoing online marketing, ensuring all components of your digital presence work together seamlessly. This holistic view helps you not only connect your systems but also grow your business effectively.
